Operations DirectorMDL BroadcastingTulsa, OKI am a big fan of the Rule Wizard/Optimization tool, I also rely on Auto Platoon to keep the library manageable. The link to search YouTube is also an awesome tool! We were on a system that is frankly too embarrassing to mention here; MusicMaster was recommended by a consultant and it was a very good call. I have recommended MusicMaster every chance I get.

I’ll be first to admit I was kicking and screaming to avoid moving to Windows-based music systems in the early millennium. A speed demon MD in DOS with six logs for two stations to do in advance of a long weekend had no time for click, close, click again. MusicMaster for Windows was my first Windows based system and I love the combination of mouse activity and keyboard shortcuts. All the repetitive functions of editing are available with keystrokes as well as mouse clicks. Using both makes it easy to get into a rhythm checking your logs.
Favorite features include the Artist Separation wizard. Having the wizard to help set a customized artist sep on all artists is great at keeping the artists with fewer tracks separated. I was happy to see MusicMaster 5 offer the ability to run a projected turnover and schedule density on an attribute like a Sound Code. Very useful in a variety based format. Adding 'Category Plays' to the Auto-Platoon function instead of only 'Move Date' is another useful MusicMaster 5 addition for me.
I'm very happy with MusicMaster and the support team. The transition was smooth, complete with custom written files for song imports with what I wanted. An excellent program backed by a great team.

I'm Brad Savage, Brand Manager for WCNR/Charlottesville, VA (AAA format). I like features like 'swap' (F5) to juggle songs within an hour, and also I like the 'artist history' dropdown option to study song history not just by title but by artist as well.
One feature I use a lot is 'highlighting' songs (F7) so I can clearly see what I consider to be 'exclusive' or 'lesser familiar' songs to our format. If I see too many highlighted songs in an hour or clumped together, I can rethink that music sweep... to maximize music discovery and our format's exclusive songs/artists but still remain cume-friendly!

Programming DirectorM80 RádioPortugalAfter many years of using different pieces of music programming software, we recently changed to MusicMaster and we are very pleased with the outcome. Just two examples:
- The diversity of available rules and the ability to copy and paste them individually (or whole directories) to different categories is very useful to us, as is the infinitely scalable rules that we can define, with as many different settings and weights as we need.
- The Schedule Editor layout is completely customizable and gives us full access to everything that we really need to program or review the station log.

Program DirectorKXRNLaguna Beach, CAHaving only used Selector, we were really concerned about the work load when starting from scratch with our 1,500 song library at our new non-commercial station KX 93.5. But we couldn't believe how easy it was to import our entire library, categorize them, and get scheduling right away with MusicMaster, especially due to the fantastic support. Thanks MusicMaster!

Having worked with MusicMaster software for almost three decades, and having had the chance to work with other systems as well, I can honestly say it’s the best music scheduling software available. Not only is this because of the program itself, but also because of the great team behind the scenes I’ve worked with. Joe, Jill, Drew and Malcolm are the best. We’ve all experienced the ‘less than interested’ response to software questions and problems and it’s refreshing that the MusicMaster team are so quick to offer support and solutions to issues you might be having. They’ve also been more than responsive to ideas for upgrades and improvements (very rare :-)).
We use a couple of features that I’m not sure everyone knows about, but are real time savers. One is the ability to copy and paste a portion of your schedule to another day and time. For example, if you do a local countdown or classic show that repeats during the week, you simply have to enter the show once, then you can copy and paste it to the repeated daypart. The other feature we’ve been using is the “Export to Affiliates” feature that allows you to share your music schedule with affiliate stations. The beauty is the affiliates get a well-groomed schedule, but still have the luxury of localizing as needed. They simply import the schedule, then are free to adjust for timing, local shows, or regional artists they would like to feature.
I’m sure the other ‘music scheduling geeks’ out there feel the same way as I do about the program itself and the support team. Truly the best!

The two best things about MusicMaster are its customer support and its ability to make our daily work so much easier. Before coming to Lake 96-1 eight years ago, my only experience was with DOS. Paul Ziino made the transition flawless. (It helped that Paul had a background working at Lake 96-1 himself!) He has been extremely patient and helpful.
In the T.S.L. (Time Spent Listening) world we now live in, MusicMaster is a great asset. They have developed some great rules that help you get the job done right via the Automatic Scheduler, Artist Keyword Hour Rotation, and Optimum Goal Scheduling Rules, just to name a few.

I've been working with MusicMaster for nearly 10 years now and I've been scheduling 24 hours per day for SR3 and the night program "ARD Hit Night" for the ARD network.
MusicMaster is the ideal tool to schedule extensive programs using very deep categories. Very demanding special shows are also scheduled by MusicMaster perfectly. I look forward to new demands from our PD, since with MusicMaster our slogan is "everything is possible".

Former Head of MusicRadio Bremen EinsBremen, GermanyThe main start point for a successful radio program is definitely the music you put into the system. But then the software kicks in and especially for our oldie based AC format I appreciate the flexibility of MusicMaster. The Shift rotation function, the Rule Groups, the flexible dayparting possibilities as well as the Artist hour rotation, the history browser and the Format scheduler are some of the tools I am using a lot. I could mention lots of other features in MusicMaster that make my daily work much easier. And I am thankful for the great MusicMaster support team which helped me with great suggestions all over the years.

WOSU-FMColumbus, OHMusicMaster helps the staff of WOSU Public Media's Classical 101 classical music radio service bring beautiful, inspiring music to listeners all day, every day. All of the Classical 101 team members use MusicMaster to research artists, to find great performances of well known works and even to rediscover those great "spice" recordings lurking on their library's shelves! Classical 101 Music Director Beverley Ervine is always elbow-deep in MusicMaster, scheduling the station's 12 hours daily of locally hosted music programming. She especially likes MusicMaster’s multiple Title Keyword functionality: "Since the classical music radio format deals so often with excerpts from larger works, being able to assign multiple Title Keywords to each database record allows us to avoid duplications in programming." Ervine also appreciates that MusicMaster's search filters can help her target and find in her dataset’s Library exactly what she's looking for, and she enjoys finding creative ways to use Song Lists. "Classical radio programming tends to acknowledge annual holidays and other notable dates," Ervine said. "It's nice that once we build a playlist for a special date we can add its contents to a Song List, so that when that date rolls around again we have a list of appropriate musical selections at our fingertips."

It’s hard to narrow down what my favorite feature of MusicMaster is. Overall, it has to be how user friendly and intuitive the entire program is. Most of us are pretty familiar with Windows, and MusicMaster is a program designed for 2012 and the future. I LOVE the mass changer feature that allows you to easily change the attributes of as many titles as you’d like in just a couple of clicks. You can even change the font from all caps, to a mix of caps and lower case. That was a huge time saver for me as I was importing many songs into my library that did not look how I wanted them to look. You can do this with everything from Artist Keywords to Sound Codes.
I’m also a big fan of how completely customizable everything is, especially in the schedule editor. It’s a HUGE time saver to have the things that are most important to YOU where YOU want them when you are scheduling your music and other elements.
We looked at all of the options available to us, and in truth, there really aren’t many serious contenders out there when it comes to music scheduling software. When we learned how competitive the terms are and add in how passionate and professional the support staff is…the decision was easy for us to choose MusicMaster. I’ve been using MusicMaster for about seven months and I have completely fallen in love with this software. If you’re thinking about upgrading, you will not be disappointed with MusicMaster 5.0.
Claus Kruesken
Head of MusicBayern 2Munich, Germany
Bayern 2 differs a lot from the typical MusicMaster customer: Our focus is on spoken word. Music adds emotional touches, works as "glue" between information and cultural content. Hits are not that important to us, an eclectic range from singer/songwriter to world music is. Therefore our categories are quite different from your typical music radio. MusicMaster gives us a great range of options for our special way of handling those categories.
Being able to automatically select from several categories in any one given line of our clocks is a key functionality for us to achieve the right mix of styles, languages and eras. As a small music department we especially appreciate the remote functionalities of MusicMaster. Even at times of staff shortages during vacation and holiday periods I can access our database from wherever, respond to sudden requirements and make necessary changes.
By the way, it's also a great way to kill time at the airport while waiting for a departure: Log on securely and help the team at the station by planning an extra day of music. Perfect.
Charlie Cook
Director Of ProgrammingWest Virginia Radio Corporation
When I joined West Virginia Radio, earlier this year, they were already MusicMaster users. I was excited to relearn the program and have found it to be a great fit for our stations and for my position as the director of programming. I can get into the program and quickly understand what the stations are doing with their music. We find it great to control our programming and MusicMaster lets you do what you want to do with your music. You’re not locked into one way of doing things.
I must add that coming back into the program I was afraid that I was going to struggle but the customer service that I got made it easy to understand why I was doing things with the rules. When you just set up the rules without knowing why and how they impact your scheduling your station is at a real disadvantage. Not so with MusicMaster.

Program DirectorNewcapCharlottetown, PE
It might make me sound old, but I really just have a lot of experience :-) And I started when I was 11…
When I first started programming in radio we used MusicScan, later to become MusicMaster. I've had the chance to use numerous programs over my career (now in my 23rd year), not one system, or a combo of "solutions" has ever even come close to being as flexible, configurable or as much of a time-saver as MusicMaster has been for me.
Two of my favorite time-saving features within the program include being able to map out special programming features, holiday schedules and placing them in the Format Scheduler to make the clocks appear and be used to schedule on date(s) I intend to use them.
The other feature I use EVERY day are Format Lists that I use to schedule and control the placement of all our imaging pieces. It allows me TOTAL control of the placement of show pieces, station events and community mentions without ever needing to mess in clocks. I can add in special image pieces to any day/anytime and see the turnover of any elements.
As a programmer to be able to see, preview and adapt and control the overall/total sound of the station including imaging and station positioners in one place is exactly what I need in my music scheduler. And to know Marianne and the MusicMaster support team is right there when I need help is a fantastic comfort!

Program DirectorKFMBSan Diego, CAI like MusicMaster because being able to copy and paste in and out of Excel is huge! I've been working with Drew Bennett on developing customized import / Library Sync definition files for Jack FM and it's saved me a ton of time pulling in outside data from BDS. Also being able to set up rule groups separately for the editor and scheduler allow me to consistently deliver Jack's signature sound in San Diego. Auto-Platooning is my next feature to lock down.

Presentation SchedulerMTV Greece
As a presentation scheduler I found MusicMaster to be an amazing tool in my hands. I used to work with another software before, and the truth is that this one is better by all comparisons!
We're talking about a very smart software that with the proper preparation can run on autopilot, and that is very important for any presentation scheduler because it gives them more time to imagine the flow and be more creative.
One more thing I truly like about MusicMaster is the ability to create your own layout depending on your needs and what's convenient for you.
I hope to have the opportunity in the future to meet a lot of people who work with MusicMaster who can improve our ideas and offer tips on how to make my use of the software more perfect!

VP ProgrammingGalaxy CommunicationsUsing MusicMaster makes it possible for me to schedule market specific elements for my morning show which is simulcast on two of our stations. Some days they broadcast from here, some days they broadcast from there…two locations, two different stations that don’t share the same music. Our own mini network made possible with the Export to Affiliates feature! I can’t imagine trying to do this without MusicMaster.

Head of MusicHitradio FFHBad Vilbel, Germany
I like that MusicMaster is so flexible. I can work very fast and stable and the Rule Tree gives me the possibility to find all the rules I need very fast but I can also build a very complex rule-system if I need it.
Flexibility in rules is only one aspect. The possibility to define multiple layouts and so that each user could define a favorite one is awesome. Everybody has an optimum overview for all the relevant data.
Additional I like service and support and I can always explore new features, that are obviously suggestions from other MusicMaster users.

General Manager of Rogers Communications, Program Director of CJRX-FMRogers CommunicationsLethbridge, AB
I've been a big fan the Musicmaster for Windows system ever since our company, Rogers Broadcasting, decided to go with it for all our radio stations. We were moving from a competitors DOS based system and had a chance to look at multiple windows systems. MusicMaster has a great history on its ease of support for clients and aggressively improves the product frequently based on our feedback.
What I like most about this system is the rule tree. It is so intuitive and flexible in its application. It simply seems limitless in its capabilities and very quick to apply. I love how I can come up with an idea on how to modify a rule and apply it on the fly and see the results within seconds.

Director, Music ProgrammingSiriusXM RadioIn my 20 years in radio I’ve used all kinds of music scheduling systems (yes, including the file box full of index cards!) None of them has afforded me the control over exactly how I needed the stations I program to sound than MusicMaster does. One of the features I’m particularly happy with (and proud of for developing the use of) is the Special Sets feature in the clocks. We have a ton of specialized content from artists that we’ve gathered over the years at SiriusXM, and with the Special Sets feature combined with a ‘secret sauce’ of keywords and breakable and unbreakable rules, we very effortlessly can schedule all of this content throughout the days and dayparts so they get not only maximum exposure but take an above average amount of time to burn out (as specialty content can tend to do…) My good buddy Paul Ziino let me know that no one was using that function of MusicMaster quite in that way, which I promptly spread up and down the halls of SiriusXM, to make us all sound even better! Thanks so much, guys!
Barb Richards
Program GoddessMajic 95.1, WAJIFort Wayne, INThe feature I like best is the playdate history window. I look at every song and can quickly see where it played the day before so I can maximize rotations. Usually the program has already picked the perfect song for the time slot but every once in a while, I have to go digging a bit further then the rules allow. To me the music log is a big puzzle and our job as programmers is to find the perfect fitting pieces to make a great picture!

I’d been using RCS (DOS) for 20 years (20 years ago it was great!) Since then, MusicMaster has steamed ahead with with new features and a clean Windows look and feel. And of course, the support is just brilliant!
My favorite features in MusicMaster are the Rule Tree and The Special Rule Tree Items, keyboard commands for quick programming, and Library Maintenance (mass changes, rotation analysis).

My favorite feature of MusicMaster has to be the Rule Tree Wizard ... helps you find those things you may have “hurried” over when setting things up. I am a big fan of double checking and MusicMaster seems to do that for you ... awesome feature.
We chose MusicMaster because it plays with everyone ... we can continue to use it no matter what software we run our “On Air” side with. It’s just a versatile and easy to use program, well done.

Custom ChannelsSBR Creative MediaBoulder, Colorado
I started using MusicMaster in the 1980's just a few years after Joe Knapp created it. MusicMaster always keeps innovating, evolving, and adapting to keep us up-to-date.
We use MusicMaster daily in our two companies. Custom Channels provides music and messaging for in-store and online radio. Clients include Whole Foods, Life is good, Floyd's Barbershops and the Bonnaroo music festival. SBR Creative Media advises radio stations on programming.
We currently run 60 databases from the MusicMaster Enterprise system along with advising radio stations that run their own MusicMaster, so we've seen many different ways MusicMaster is used. When we owned our own radio stations there was no hesitation about using MusicMaster.
It's difficult to rank the best features of MusicMaster because it really is the sum of the interconnected functions that make MusicMaster such a marvelous software program. We especially like that it's so fun to use. The colors, the personalization, being able to listen to every song, and the depth of features make manipulating a music library really fun!
Finally, we can't say enough about the MusicMaster support staff. They always treat us well when answering our dumb questions or when giving us a creative solution when we want to do something out of the ordinary with MusicMaster.

I like the following features of MusicMaster: Full flexibility to show anything on the screen at anytime. I like looking at history automatically on every song before I press enter and schedule it...and making massive library changes has never been easier or more convenient.
We chose MusicMaster because flat-out we felt it was the best Windows-based music scheduler on the market. Plus, your support is far superior to what we were used to getting. Enough said.

Corporate Program DirectorMartz Communications GroupAs a corporate PD with multiple formats to work with, there is no better program for me to use for scheduling music than MusicMaster. This program exceeded my expectations in so many ways it would be hard for me to consider another program. MusicMaster is user friendly and the company is open to new ideas. They recognize “I’m the boots on the ground” using this product every day. I can listen to every element as I schedule which ensures I put out a better product daily on my stations. Being able to listen to the enhancers and jingles as they move between the songs ensures the overall texture is perfect. Another very important aspect for MusicMaster is their STELLER tech support which saves me time when a problem does occur. I am sure everyone can relate to the needs of scheduling that MusicMaster delivers.

Vice President/ProgrammingOhana Media GroupAnchorage, AKOver two years ago we faced a situation that saw us using a music scheduling program which some markets were on a Windows version and others using a DOS based program. As the time approached for deciding what our future would look like we shopped the marketplace. When it was all said and done, MusicMaster became the absolute clear choice for our stations. With 21 stations programming music, it was important to find one programming tool which achieved our scheduling goals, was easy to learn and use and as the head of programming allowed me to streamline my review of each market without trying to remember how two different programs ran and where to find the information and data I needed. With the assistance of our outstanding MusicMaster service rep Aaron Taylor and the entire MusicMaster team, New Northwest Broadcasters made the transition and we haven't looked back.

Rule one: Don't spill root beer on the computer when doing music. Or, at least wait until you're done and have done a backup. Then pour away.
Rule two: Don't overdue the rules. Put in what rules you NEED. If you go crazy with putting in rules, you will end up with nothing but unscheduled slots. Yes, you want the computer to do its' work, but if you put too many rules in, you'll create a situation where no song can work in any situation. The more important the song catagory, the fewer rules there should be. I have no rules for my powers. They are the most important songs on the station and I want them all to play. The rules kick in for catagories below power. Then those songs have to work around the powers. The computer does half the work. The other half is you looking at the results and using your judgement to fix problems and make things as good as they can be.
Steve Jones
Vice President/ProgrammingNewcap RadioMusicMaster rocks! It is our system of choice at Newcap stations across Canada. I love the Optimum Goal Scheduling. It gives our stations the ability to really push the system hard to give us the best possible log, not just one that meets basic rules, but the Keyword Separation Wizard is my favorite feature. With a few clicks I can instantly make a radio station sound better. Until I started using MusicMaster, my music scheduling software was just a utility. Now, I see it as a weapon that helps our radio stations win.

Operations ManagerColumbus Radio GroupColumbus, OHMusicMaster is packed with plenty of analytical punch. Turnover Analysis has been a huge time saver for me. In the past year I’ve revamped two stations databases. The simple to use and easy to follow tools made it so easy to clean up faulty rotations. When launching a new format last month the turnover tools helped me create near perfect balance in my rotation with only a couple of trials. In the past, it would have taken me days of trial and error to have such results. MusicMaster has given me so much more control than I had been accustomed to on other software. Oh yeah, and my MSC Paul is amazing.
Daniel Finke
Music Director NationalEnergy Germany, BerlinThe definitive best thing in working with MusicMaster is that MusicMaster makes our daily work much easier. The results that I get from the automatic scheduler are accurate and closest to the requirements of our network. We love to work with the Enterprise-setup and have a master-database where every song is only entered once. And the support leaves nothing to be desired. And – best for last: The people behind the product are so likeable, it’s fun to call them without having any problem.
Scott Lindy
Program DirectorWSTR-FMAtlanta, GAOne of my favorite features in MusicMaster is Special Sets. Setting up this feature is easy and saves hundreds of hours a year in scheduling specialized production into your logs that would otherwise have to be done manually, like placing Artist ID’s or Intros before songs. I can set up 3-4 special set positions in each hour (as many as you want really) telling MusicMaster to schedule an Artist ID, Image Sweeper or quick ID in those Special Set log positions, dependent upon the rules that I make. I can even time/date the ID’s so that the specific production plays when I want it (Like the artist saying ‘good morning’ or ‘good afternoon’ or ‘it’s the weekend!’) Setting up the rules for this feature is intuitive and once you learn how to do it you’ll just start coming up with more ideas on how to specialize the production on your station. Bye-bye to the days of manually picking the right production to play at the right times in front of the right songs. Set it up once, code your songs and production and you see the results in the log. And although there’s more than one way to control flow/tempo/content element to element in your log I use Special Sets for that too. Now you’ve got more time to coach your jocks, write that report or even leave the studios for lunch!

Music DirectorAntena Zagreb & Totalni FMCroatiaI'm scheduling several stations with MusicMaster and the biggest advantage is that the software is so user friendly. I love the library search functions to find what I'm looking for quickly. I always get a perfect overview of the histories of songs and artists, and I can listen to the songs I'm scheduling directly in MusicMaster. The possibility to insert trivia for songs and artists helped a lot to improve the music selling on air. And I love the Enterprise functions, so that I only have to feed my master database with all the songs I need and I can use them in every child database I have. MusicMaster is a big help for my daily work.

My journey with MusicMaster has been an exciting one over the past years. One of my favorite things about the program is the fact that the teaching continues. Daily. If you are willing to immerse yourself with MusicMaster, it reveals more of itself to you. The challenge is to streamline your scheduling process to a tailor-made one.
This is a process that I have come to adore. In a case such as ours where we schedule music in two different languages, MusicMaster has enabled us to customize the process to an extent where I, the scheduler, and the program almost share a conscience. Brilliant!
MusicMaster is a fun, funky, an intellectual product and brand. Exactly the way I like my men… I look forward to a great future with MusicMaster, and becoming a true master myself, is my ambition.
Chayan Ortuno
MusicMaster, for me, is the most complete and defined software in the radio industry for any type of program director. MusicMaster has helped me create my own database because it contains the information that is most important to me. With MusicMaster each programmer has the ability to build a database designed specifically for him or her. This software is ideal for me because it automatically sets up a separation for each artist based on my category rotation. MusicMaster is incredible, it has helped me better my programming, create a better rotation and therefore increased my ratings.
Danny Kingsbury
General ManagerCFLT-FMHalifax, NS, CanadaI'm sure most "old schoolers" can relate when I say music scheduling has evolved at super sonic speed. We've come a long way from the days of jocks hand-picking vinyl for their show, to now being able to change a song on-air with a Blackberry. MusicMaster’s evolution is just as dramatic with MusicMaster. I love the customization, user friendliness, mobility and powerful processing capability. The program is the easiest and most effective way to put your "vision" on your station. Experienced users love the fact that you control the programming but MusicMaster does the work. If you're a new user, and not 100% sure about rotation rules and formulas, simply let the MusicMaster “Rule Wizard” set you up. You can tweak as you go. My favourite feature? "Play song".....you no longer have to wonder how “that splitter” will flow with “that song”…….who would have thought when we were picking vinyl all those years ago, that one day a simple mouse click on the screen will give you instant preview of how it will sound on-air. It’s a PD/MD dream. You have to love technology.
Jack Hicks
Operations ManagerKLLZ-FM, KLIZ-FMBemidji, MN
I've done two things with MusicMaster. One is to experiment with the rules settings based on how much time I have to edit the logs. As we all know, the days of spending two hours editing one day's music are, for the most part gone. If I'm spending too much time editing, I adjust the rules slightly. If I don't see any unscheduled songs, I tighten a bit. It's sad that "time" has become the dictator of quality, but MusicMaster works really well for me to strike a balance.
My other secret tip is to rely on the support people at MusicMaster. Drew is excellent as someone who really knows what he is doing and being a great person as well. He never makes you feel stupid; even though I've bombarded him with what many people would consider dumb questions! The support at MusicMaster is truly the best in the business.

I’ve been programming music for more than 15 years. For most of that time I’ve been working with DOS-based music scheduling software. But as the song says “the times they are a’changing,” and I couldn’t be happier. Our company just underwent a complete overhaul back in August 2009. This included our on-air systems and subsequently our music system as well. I can tell you I couldn’t be more pleased that we now use MusicMaster! I love the user interface, the visual layout and the overall experience of working with a Windows-based piece of software. MusicMaster truly is a wonderful tool for any music or program director. I love being able to use the “Move” options for songs so that I can easily platoon my music for easy rotation. And I don’t have to worry about it making it back to its proper category, as MusicMaster will take care of that for me. I also love the breakdown information you can get with the “turnover analysis.” Plus, the easy to use layout when creating clocks makes generating any kind of schedule effortless.
All-in-all MusicMaster is a really great piece of software, and, if ever you are stuck, the great support you get from Malcolm and Paul is fantastic!
Jim Kressler
Former VP of Programming OperationsDMI Music & Media NetworksScheduling multiple formats for DMI's growing client base, we make great use of the MusicMaster's Enterprise. It's the best way to keep track of all of the music going into the scheduler and out to our customers. We use it as a one-stop for all coding and metadata. MusicMaster's flexibility then allows us to customize each individual database with only the coding we need while maintaining the ability to add additional coding as needed. It's another example of the program's flexibility.

Music Director AVRMagic 949 / 1450 CFAB, MBS RadioHalifax, NS, CanadaI'm really new with MusicMaster. We switched to the system in August 2009 and already I'm very pleased with the software. The feature that I truly love is being able to make clock changes up to a year in advance! This makes scheduling 10 stations a breeze! The support from Malcolm and Paul is also great! They are always there at the drop of a hat, and they always take the time to make sure everything is right!
Kevin "Crash" Davis
Former Program DirectorWNDT/WNDD/WNDNGainsville/Ocala, FLAs PD of a Gold only format (Classic Rock), it is very important to make the most out my active library and buck the image of too much repetition. If certain songs tend to "clump" at the bottom of the pile and not get played as often as other songs within the category, here’s an idea: outside of the shuffle feature, be sure to place Maximum Rest high in your rule tree. This will ‘force’ songs before looking at Optimum Goal Scheduling. Below that (with longer time period) place ABSOLUTE Maximum Rest-this will overide Optimum Goal Scheduling.

The UnconsultantWhen the folks at MusicMaster asked me what my favorite feature of MusicMaster is, I answered with, 'I have to pick just one?' I build a lot of databases. So the simple ability to cut and paste in and out of MusicMaster makes it fast to build a database from scratch, or to add songs or research scores. Then the keyword wizards help to quickly get the perfect separation between artists and titles. The marking, mass changing and library analysis tools are quick and exactly what I need to make sound mathematical choices.

President/GMVideo Mix TVMiami, FLMusicMaster has proven to be a multi-layered tool that has transformed my idea of efficiently managing my music television network into a reality. The Enterprise feature has been very valuable in my efforts to localize my network in each market, deploy new content and cross pollinate music while managing one master database.

Director/Programming & OperationsWLYF-FM, Lincoln Financial GroupMiami, FLHaving spent 22 years comfortably coccooned in a DOS-based scheduling app, I was a little nervous about transitioning to a Windows-powered MusicMaster. Three months later, I couldn't be more impressed. The "Format Lists" option in MusicMaster has allowed us to create a rolling, open-ended music sequence with categories based first on texture, then vintage -- something I've wanted to implement for nearly 30 years. It's made a tremendous improvement to LITE FM's musical flow and variety (not to mention speeding up the scheduling process). And with the ability to infinitely customize screen colors, fonts and report layouts, I'm one very happy control freak!

SBS Regional Mexican PD, Radio ConsultantI have been in the radio industry for over 20 years as a Program Director and consultant for more than a dozen radio stations across the country. I have scheduled music with various types of systems including primative rolodex cards in the early years to sophisticated software from various companies. Of all the music schedulers I have used MusicMaster is most satisfying and complete system. The interface is advanced and user friendly. I can usually intergrate it (clocks, rules, etc.) into a new radio station in a matter of hours. As a consultant, I'm always sharing ideas and suggestions with my clients, usually the first recommendation is to "get MusicMaster to schedule your music".

Here are two of my favorite features that make my job easier and my station sound great!
1) Reconciling my logs has never been easier. I pick the date range, MusicMaster goes to my Scott Studio Aired results log, pulls the data, and matches it to my scheduled music. That way I get a true history and I can see if anyone inserted any songs they shouldn't have!
2) One of my weekend Features is the Classic Rewind Weekend. With MusicMaster I have my clocks set up to follow my legal ID, which represents a year and also has that year as a theme. The songs and imaging that follow automatically follow the theme for the half hour the feature runs every hour. Before MusicMaster, I had to do this manually. Now it's a breeze and saves me a lot of time!

Music DirectorCFBR-FM 100.3FM The BEAREdmonton, AlbertaWith the diversity of our music & comedy content, I would have to say my favourite feature in MusicMaster is how you can set up virtually limitless categories. At The BEAR we do tons of "Specialty" music weekends, and we also have a massive comedy library (including holiday specific comedy), so the ability to have limitless categories for music and other "feature" type stuff is essential.

Director of Digital and Social MediaCox Media GroupAtlanta, GAI actually have two favorite features of MusicMaster. One is VERY helpful especially when programming several stations, auto reconciliation with the automation system. My second fave is "Optimum Goal Scheduling" it simplifies your rules and maximizes their potential. I love MusicMaster!

The more I use MusicMaster… The MORE I fall in love with its forward-thinking features, great rotations and nearly instant air-quality music logs.
The software is very intuitive for OMs, PDs and MDs whether they consider themselves DOS dummies or "digital natives." And as a consultant, it made my life easier because MusicMaster helped me accelerate the training and transition process for those programmers whenever there was a change in strategy, direction, position or responsibilities that they had to take on immediately.
Among two of my favorite MusicMaster features are the customizable song highlighting feature in the Schedule Editor, and new MusicMaster widget for WideOrbit Automation.
The easy-to-use song highlighting feature enables you to see versatile and vivid graphical representations on screen of the song criteria that you care most about when scheduling – everything from core artists to research scores to tempo. It's completely programmable. You don't have to spend as much time massaging the log as you think you do. I use and recommend the song highlighting and instant analysis features to help create a more powerful and emotional music flow that will better engage audiences.

Program DirectorRock AntenneMunich, GermanyThe Name says it all. MusicMaster helps us master all music tasks at ROCK ANTENNE. It is a reliable, efficient and stable software and life without it would simply be more difficult. At ROCK ANTENNE we also greatly value MusicMaster's technical support, which is just as special as the software itself. Whenever we need immediate support we get it, and if we wish to contribute some new "user-friendly ideas" which can lead to the further development of the MusicMaster, they are always taken into consideration by the programmers. So why make a music editor's life complicated-- make it fun and easy: Use MusicMaster, the perfect music management tool for the smooth functioning of ROCK ANTENNE! Thanx, guys!

Ops Manager/Program DirWDRQ/WDVDDetroit, MIConsolidation and downsizing provides us the opportunity to do more with less (do you like how I approach this dilemma with a "glass half full attitude"?) MusicMaster is a key component in my arsenal. Programming music for a Hot AC, Adult Hits and two HD-2 stations, I need a product with the flexibility and intuition to help us schedule music for narrow and shallow playlists to deep and wide playlists. One of our favorite features is the ability to easily clone a database and work on several different versions at once to get the best rules configuration. I also use this feature to create "war room" scenarios and make several different versions of my stations so we're prepared when market changes might adversely affect our products.

Program Director/MDKRTY-FMSan Jose, CAThe best thing about MusicMaster is your customer support. Hands down, bar none, you guys have the absolute best customer support. When I started with the MusicMaster program I wasn't very well versed in computer functions and I relied HEAVILY on Aaron (read that, I lived on his phone) and he was always so patient and so helpful. No one and I mean NO ONE has better customer support than MusicMaster.

Program DirectorWNCY-FMGreen Bay, WIWow, what an honor to be selected as the Music Master of the month! I am far from an expert, but I have used MusicMaster for many years (since 1991) on several top rated stations in CHR & AC formats and now with Country on Y100 the #1 station in both the Green Bay and Appleton-Oshkosh markets. The biggest things I have learned about MusicMaster are: Check & double check the info you input. Schedule currents first then check the log and lay in the gold. Make sure the math makes sense when you design categories. Don't forget about the "song list editor" this works great for special weekends and countdowns.

www.EZAMFM.comIn the past twenty years I have been music director for a major market radio station, worked for a company that generated hundreds of music logs daily, consulted program and music directors on music scheduling and other software... and I have overseen music scheduling at the corporate level for some mighty impressive corporations. I can operate every "music scheduler" on the market today. And, a lot that are no longer on the market. Today I am designing low-cost plug-and-play music formats for HD FM stations that are not only unique but fully customizable. And there is only one "music scheduler" I would consider using. MusicMaster. Why? Because IT is fully customizable. I put the term "music scheduler" in quotations because I don't see the software as just a scheduler. More than that, it's my partner. It's how I solve every music problem that surfaces with these off-the-wall formats. I can tell the software what I need to do and, in turn, it shows me the absolute best way to make it happen. I was thoroughly happy with the DOS version of MusicMaster because I could see the side-by-side comparison with the other programs. Hands down, MusicMaster's DOS program won the day EVERY day. Today, there is no way to compare MusicMaster with any other software. When I sit down at the computer every day, I put on the only tool-belt I will need: MusicMaster. The way these guys have priced the software is truly fabulous. But the net result is really simple. If your music director has a comfort zone that consists of generating tomorrow's log and nothing else, MusicMaster will do that. If your music director is a bells and whistles kinda guy who decides to explore what MusicMaster can really do, his only limitation will be his imagination."

Jacobs MediaI refrain from calling MusicMaster a "music scheduling" system; it's really a user-friendly, customizable, music strategy management and delivery system. If you're a user, be sure to maximize the customization aspect of the manual editor. If you're a new convert, consider the need for new song attributes that represent key aspects of your music strategy. Our clients with MusicMaster have seen this software become a solid tool that helps maintain focus throughout the entire strategic process; from market study to music study, to data analysis and sorting, and then music system implementation and log analysis. This final and regular review step helps ensure what comes out of the speakers is consistent with the strategic vision created at the first stage of the process. Here is where a focused collection of song attributes and smart use of the manual editor can present a visual representation of the "ideal" music sweep, instead of a dizzying collection of text and codes. This, in turn, helps you spot and resolve potential problems... before your consultant sees them.

Assistant PD, Music DirectorKS95/KSTP-FMMinneapolis, MNScheduling music for Hot AC radio is all about balance. That's why I like to use the "instant analysis" feature in MusicMaster. I have it set to look for "fringe" sound codes. I can easily look at any hour and see exactly how many and what percentage of songs in that hour are from those fringe categories. It's a simple way to make sure that I am keeping the station on track sound-wise.

Head of MusicIR Media, BB RADIO and JAM FMPotsdam, GermanyWe changed to MusicMaster three years ago. Especially if more than one person is working on a schedule, it was difficult to see detailed problems in the schedule. With the highlight filters this a great way to check the most important strategic scheduling details on one view. Unfortunate song or Artist conflicts can not be overseen anymore. The upgrade to eight Highlight filters was a great step for us in the latest version.

Music DirectorRadio 7Ulm, GermanyI am working with MusicMaster more than ten years now. Since about three years I use MusicMaster. It is the most flexible tool I ever saw for music scheduling. The possibility to synchronize all my research data, chart information or any other source of useful data makes it even more powerful for me. We are scheduling a lot of specialty shows which was always a lot of work in the old times, with MusicMaster it is a breeze. All my editors enjoy working in the multi-user environment which makes life so much easier and we adore the stability, no crashes no hastle... I have a great job and MusicMaster is my favorite tool to help me.

Assistant Program Director / Music Director93.7 JRfmI started using MusicMaster a few years ago and it didn't take me long to fall in love with it! I love it's clean and simple visual appearance, the fact it's much faster and less prone to crash than any other windows based music scheduling program. The rule tree wizard... creating perfect rotations are easy with this feature. It'll look at your database and suggest what rules you need, don't need and/or what rules could be modified.

Former Regional Format General / Country at Citadel Broadcasting, FM Operations Manager for KRST / KDRF / KOBFM / KMGACitadel Broadcasting, KRST / KDRF / KOBFM / KMGAOne of my favorite features in MusicMaster for Windows is the Artist Separation Wizard. eD-FM has a huge variety of artists, some with only a couple of songs, some with lots of titles. It would be very difficult to set an artist separation that would allow a Genesis song every 4 hours but keep both Whitesnake songs from playing in the same day. Enter the Separation Wizard! Just run it and it checks your library, clocks and rules and automatically sets the optimum separaration for each individual artist - 6:25 for Genesis, 15:05 for Whitesnake. You could also use this on a current-based station weekly - when Garth has a power it would recommend a 55 minute separation, as opposed to the 2:30 separation when all he has is 90s library material.

Senior Vice PresidentZapoleon Media StrategiesMusicMaster is the next generation of music software - it is powerful yet easy to use. It is very intuitive; it is multi-tasking; and best of all it produces great logs with less editing time. I especially like the optimum goal rules that automatically work your library for proper balance as well as the wizard that analyzes not only rules but also schedules and suggests improvements. The “instant analysis” feature lets you see at a glance what percentage comprises each hour of any attribute you define (e.g. sound codes, tempo codes, etc.). MusicMaster gets the job done - and having the right music product is essential to ratings success.

Before being exposed to MusicMaster, I scheduled music with blinders on. Now, don't get me wrong, I could tap out a day of music on the other system pretty quick. I thought it was right on. I was wrong. What we get with MusicMaster is phenomenal flexibility with our tempo/type selection and a history breakdown second to none. I am a firm believer that it's what you DO play that hurts you, not what you don't play. With MusicMaster, after setting up our parameters, we know that we're not going to over saturate a day part with something that's not in power. Another feature we are big on is the gold platoon. This feature has allowed us to efficiently schedule our golds for optimum exposure, then rest what needs it, with ease and accuracy.
I could talk all day about what has made me a MusicMaster guy after pledging allegiance to Selector, but you wouldn't listen until you heard what your station COULD sound like. Trust me, old school music scheduling is inefficient and, well dumb.

MusicMaster is very dope!
MusicMaster is a very incredible program that's been very easy for me to use to program music for Power 106.
There are many features I love to use. On Power 106, we have three different versions of each song that play on the air. The history link feature helps a lot so I can see how the song rotates as one song. Also love how, when looking at the daily history graph, how the quarter hours show when looking at each hour a record rotates. Also, ask Mark about the "E-man" rule!
Thanks MusicMaster! Very cool program!!!

Network Music DirectorNew Life MediaA feature in MusicMaster that I have found very helpful is the option to layer rules through multiple rule sets. I love having the ability to set an "ideal" rule(s) in the breakable rule sets and yet allowing MusicMaster to relax the rule to a preset limit when all songs fail to meet the "breakable" criteria.

Assistant Program Director, Music DirectorStar 94 - WSTRAtlanta, GAWow, MusicMaster has changed my life! I have finally found music scheduling software that works for me. I personally love the "Highlight" feature. Multiple artists is a huge issue for me, and having the ability to assign different colors for "problem" artists is a HUGE help in scanning the day. I also love how easy holiday/specialty programming is with the format scheduler. Having the ability to easily go in to each specific day, and alter individual hours is a tremendous help. The fact that virtually everything is customizable makes Music Master work for me, especially in Library Maintenance, Queries, and Schedule Editor. I can't forget to mention the support. That's the element that I wouldn't trade for the world. My personal support contact, Marianne, is always available to help when I'm in a bind.
John Paul
Vice President of ProgrammingDial Global NetworksDenver, COThere are many things I love about my MusicMaster. My favorite feature by far is how easy it is to make and change my clocks. I've worked with other music scheduling systems in the past, and none of them compare with MusicMaster when it comes to clocks. It's so easy to click and drag, add and subtract elements and songs. If I have an idea for a new clock, I can easily have it rebuilt and on the air in minutes.

Dozens of orchestras, hundreds of composers, thousands of pieces in multiple playlists . . . this is part of the glory of classical music radio, but it does make for lots of detail!
I breathe easier knowing that MusicMaster lets us sort, search and manage all this data so flexibly. And if you need them, the customer service folks are cheerful, prompt, and know the program inside and out.

MusicMaster is the first music scheduling software platform I’ve given my complete trust to. Rules, Rotations, Separations, flow, texture... all the important boundaries we put on our music library and ask MusicMaster to do, it does. When you think of creating the perfect music log, no matter the size of your library, whether your library is 2500 songs or 100 songs,
MusicMaster can take the audio-perception you have for your station in your head and create nearly perfect logs, day after day. For me, MusicMaster has taken the "What if I could..." ideas and put them into useable scheduling functions. Optimum Scheduling Goals is a true revolution for MusicMaster.
From a time when I would pay whatever it cost to have the "best" product ... MusicMaster is the product that you have to have - not because its the most affordable, but because it does everything music scheduling software should do, and more.

Believe it or not, MusicMaster has been a godsend for News-Talk Radio, too!
Arguably, a well produced News-Talk station has more moving parts than the average music station -- too often with far less control over those critical elements.
When I got to Chicago, WLS was rotating promos and liners simply by dubbing them into rotating cuts on the hard drive. That meant any "rotations" were reduced to glorified roulette with less than effective results. With MusicMaster, we were able to manage our messages and program elements -- ensuring proper dayparting, separation and distribution.
Our audience recycling was up dramatically thanks to MusicMaster!

Former Music Director92.5 JACK-FM (CJAQ-FM)Toronto, OntraioWe were having trouble getting the sound we wanted with our old scheduling software. We looked at several different products, and when we saw how well MusicMaster worked we were sold instantly. We made the switch about 3 months ago and it has performed flawlessly, editing is faster, we're getting better rotations and it's way more fun to use. I was impressed with the fact that the database is a standardized architecture, rather than a proprietary system making it much easier to deploy on our network. I love the fact that the history grid shows you not only what hour a song or element played, but which quarter hour it played in. The ability to cut and paste data back and forth between a spreadsheet and MusicMaster saves a huge amount of time as well There are a vast number of other features and tools that have really worked well for us including the Rule Tree, Optimum Goal Scheduling, and the ability to play the current element's audio with one keystroke. On top of all that is the brilliant customer support, my MusicMaster guys have been incredibly helpful, even with the smallest issue, it's a very refreshing change from what we had before. It's clear to me that MusicMaster is the nest generation of music scheduling software, I honestly don't know why we waited this long to switch.

Operations Manager - Bayshore EastBayshore Broadcasting Corp.MusicMaster has made our jobs easier and more efficient at CHUM Kawarthas. Our three Music Directors who work with MusicMaster on a daily basis all had an easy transition from the DOS version. And once they got used to the new interface, they were amazed with how much more MusicMaster could do! In small-market situations, we're always looking for something to add time to our days. MusicMaster did that for us and provided an easy-to-use, easy-to-customize, easy-on-the-eyes tool for dealing with the most important component of our product-the music.

Vice PresidentCameron BroadcastingI love the new Auto Platooning feature! It lets me add songs and then rotate them in from rest and back evenly over the course of 1 year, three months, 6 days and 22:34 minutes! The other feature I love is the music history chart (2 versions) One large chart that I can instantly look at while editing logs or the new small version that pops up for every song highlighted! MusicMaster is the undisputed champion! I've used MusicMaster since 1991 and it just keeps getting better and better! Many Thanks!

Former Dir. Music Programming & Talent RelationsCMT - Country Music TelevisionNashville, TNAfter having successfully implemented MusicMaster for Windows on the radio front, there was no question that it could be used for the complicated task of scheduling videos. One thing that MusicMaster has been able to provide to CMT and many other MTV networks is the opportunity to customize the software to look at the texture, environment and type of video. One of the other large tasks, which the A-Ware team worked so hard on, was to integrate MusicMaster with existing MTV programs that are responsible for importing commercials, promos and various long form programming. After digging into the program further, we've been able to utilize it as a research tool as well. MusicMaster even allows me to watch a video on my desktop, right from the scheduling screen. The program is spreading through the MTV Networks like wildfire, and is being used for formats from Caribbean to Country.

Jeff McCarthy
Vice President of ProgrammingMidwest Communications, Inc.I've had the pleasure of being exposed to the new Windows Version 3.0, and this will revolutionize the way we schedule music on a daily basis. Joe Knapp's team has created a scheduler that is allowed to think like us when setting up a music database. The most impressive feature I've found thus far is the Automatic Scheduling Goals. In the past, (last week), I had to create the rules based on many variables of the format. The Automatic Scheduling Goals do the work for you. Always being skeptical, I've put this to the test and it has passed with flying colors. It still takes skill, knowledge and creativity to produce a great music flow, but the features offered in MusicMaster Windows 3.0 will astound you. Thanks Joe for making our lives easier so we may fill the extra time with other work.
David Gleason
Former Executive Vice PresidentUnivision RadioLos Angeles, CAIn DOS schedulers, we were forced to deal with 28 to 32 unscheduled positions each day, and we had a need to spend as much as an hour massaging the log… all this after 6 years of tweaking the rules and categories and coding. With MusicMaster, we got 2 unscheduled songs a day, in specialty shows, and have a near air-quality log with no editing!
